Video
On October 21 we saw a video in class about a women who shocked the world. She grew up in Africa and was into writing. Growing up all the stories she wrote and read had white characters. This was very weird because she never really saw a white man before. But she kept all of her characters with the same features. In her town she never thought that she would publish a book and she did and it had an African American as the main character she couldn't belive that she was able to publish her book. The message i learnt from her is to never give up. She inspired me to follow all my dreams and never give up. She had such a slight chance of doing what she did and she never gave up. So I too will never give up on my dreams
Latino
We recently had to read the comic Latino USA: A Cartoon History by Ilan Stavans. Ilan Stavans tries to make teach the readers a lesson in this comic. In America many Americans generalize and call all spanish spacing people Latinos. When in fact many of them are not Latinos. On page 7 the author gives an example of a man who says he was born in Mexico but, in America he will be considered a Latino Americano. On page 7 it also says you can be Mexican, Cuban, and Latin American but when you come to America you are all Latino Americanos. The author is trying to teach us Americans that we generalize and call people and categorize people into subgroups that they do not belong to and it is not right. After reading the comic I realized that I too generalize and will try and stop to do so because it can be hurtful and offensive to others.
